Discussing The WORLD Tarot Card: The Role of the Artist in a Technological World on GRACED Podcast
Out of all the decks I've created (6 and counting), The Artist Decoded Tarot is the most confronting, and controversial.
Yoshino and I have been friends since 2017, and decided to collaborate on this project in the nascent phases of AI around 2022.
It is absolutely mind-blowing and insane to see where the technology has advanced since we started our exploration, and I knew even then that eventually this deck would become a relic of sorts -- a testament to the time of its creation.
With any great work of art or writing, it will always be subjective to the reader or observer. Some humans love this deck and say it's changed their life forever. Some see the word "AI" and immediately shudder and rip into the medium, without understanding the blood, sweat, tears, time and effort that went into not only the guidebook, but the art Yoshino created.
Whether you love it or hate it, I am proud of our deck, and stand by what it meant to me. I see it as a love-letter to Tarot, spirit, and imagination which addresses technology as an extension of the human impulse to create and understand why we are here, where we are going, and what it all means (or doesn't mean).
The guidebook also has 78 different prompts in the vein of The Artist's Way, which encourages readers to create in the analog world and to explore creativity whether you identify as an artist or not.
In any event, I am really grateful to Grace for giving us the platform (and grace) to talk about our feelings and process, and all we have learned along the way.
Also, I love how the cards fell and Be Not Afraid reaffirmed the reading at hand for our collective reading towards the end!
